One year on…

Hey, guess what? It’s my blogging anniversary!  Or at least, it was yesterday, but a) it was Sunday and I wouldn’t have posted anyway and b) I hadn’t noticed!

Silly really, I knew it must be coming up sometime around now, but just kept forgetting to check when!  Ah well, I’m sure you haven’t been counting, have you?

Well for those of you like me who like stats and numbers and stuff like that, here’s a year’s worth of figures…

On 21st February 2010, I made my first foray into the blogosphere (thanks to the encouragement of a few friends, and the practical help of Simona!). Since then I’ve written 171 posts, under 13 categories, with 70 tags, generating 144 comments (thank you!).

The busiest day was 14th May 2010 when a staggering 62 of you read this post.

At the time of writing, I’ve received 3344 hits (wow!), which is an average of 9 per day or 19.5 per post.

I’ve been ‘stumbled upon’, ‘digg-ed’, retweeted and facebooked. I’ve guest posted on Rediscovering the Church/PeterPollock.com, reposted articles written by Peter Pollock and Melissa Brotherton as well as articles and reviews I’ve written for other websites including the Everything Conference and Theos.

I’ve written more than I ever expected about leadership, and found myself wandering off down paths I had never expected. What I have found really encouraging, though, is that I’m still writing. It’s less frequent than it sometimes has been, but that’s more due to time constraints than because of having nothing to say. I started blogging because I felt like there was so much I wanted to comment on, but just didn’t have an outlet. I almost didn’t start because I was afraid that I would discover I really didn’t have that much to say after all.

Thank you to all who have taken the time to read, circulate and respond to my posts. It is such an encouragement to see you here! Special thanks to the seven of you who have signed up to receive notification of my posts by e-mail – I’m touched beyond words that seven people in the world have decided they don’t want to miss a thing and want to make sure my posts arrive in their inbox every day.  If you want to join them, just click the link at the top right hand side of the page!

However often you drop by, I hope you find my thoughts and rambling inspiring, challenging, thought-provoking and/or encouraging. Thank you for joining me in singing a new song to the world.

I wonder what the next year will hold…

    Wow. A year already?

    CONGRATULATIONS!

IO’m glad you’ve stuck with it. Sorry I don’t come by too often. I do get your emails though and LOVE your writing!

    How’s the Master’s going?

Thank you! And thanks for all your encouragement along the way. I really do intend to join your blog carnival soon – it’s a great idea and a good discipline, I just keep forgetting till the actual day, then it’s a bit too late to scribble something (worthwhile) down.

Masters is going well too, thanks – the really encouraging/inspiring/daunting (!) fact about all that is that when I’ve finished it, I’ll have no excuse for not writing the books I’ve always wanted to – if I can find time to work, blog, church and study, there’s no reason why I can’t write what I actually want to, too… *GULP*!

I saw you’re thinking about doing some more work on Prof Alexander, too – how’s that going?

Thanks Lisette! Nice to ‘meet’ you.
Yes, my brother is pretty amazing, isn’t he? Hope you enjoy blogging as much as I have – it has been fun, challenging, stretching, stimulating and only occasionally slightly burdensome. I’ve met some great people, though, with some brilliant blogs. Just going to hop over to yours now and check it out…

And as one of the seven people you mentioned, you’re most welcome! 🙂

Now you really have got me worried. It’s partly that you’ve reminded me that I’m a year older than I was when you started, but it’s also the problem of dates in the blogosphere. Yesterday I thought it was Monday but dropping by to see your blog I found it was actually Leadership Wednesday. Now today, which I am sure is Tuesday 22nd. I find your blog says it’s Monday the 21st. Hmmm.
Perhaps you should add a box for ‘Notify me when dates don’t conform’.
