Finding real beauty

Finding real beauty

Alexis Foreman is tall, slim and beautiful with perfect skin and oodles of confidence. Little wonder, then, that she was ‘spotted’ by talent scouts looking for a ‘Real Woman’ for Dove’s skincare adverts.

Alexis also attends a Newfrontiers church in Brighton. A friend told me about her and suggested I tell her story, but what would be the ‘hook’? ‘Beautiful Woman Stars in Beauty Ads’ somehow didn’t seem to cut it!

Then I saw a report on the increasing numbers of young women who are so dissatisfied with their bodies that they undergo cosmetic surgery in an attempt to get closer to the ideal they have been sold.

Someone commenting on the report said the Church has an important role to play in addressing these issues, and there was my story.

I contacted Alexis, who agreed to give me an interview, and you can read the results on the Everything Conference website.

Jennie, I read the article, and you hit this one out of the ballpark. Congratulations!! My husband and I talk often about how we would have raised a girl if we had had one, and a lot of the things you said fall right in with our discussions. We have two boys who are 12 1/2 and 15 and talk all the time about the things girls can do as opposed to what they look like.

Thanks so much Lisa! I have no idea what you look like, but I know you’re lovely – you’re such an amazing encourager!

That’s a great way to approach it with your boys. One thing that didn’t make it into the interview was Alexis said something similar, she thinks about how she’d encourage them to take care of themselves, but care more about their inner beauty. She then said with her sons 2 of them are quite chunky and the other is much smaller, but they’re all really into muscles, so she and her husband try to make sure they assure the older one that he is powerful even if he doesn’t have a muscular body, which I thought was an interesting point.

Thanks again for your consistent encouragement and compliments! They mean so much.

Thank you so much! My boys are really into baseball, and they’re working on that muscle develoopment this summer. They’re both late bloomers so I will keep what you said in mind. When Andrew (my 15 yo) played baseball this past spring, I was surprised at how tall some of the other boys were already, and he was too. But, I told him that his time was coming, and he’s come up another inch or so since then. I’m making some changes to my own blog which will hopefully be done in the next day or so. When that happens, there will be a picture of me on it so you’ll be able to see what I look like. 🙂 Have a great day!!!
